The movie is about a woman, The Bride, who was betrayed by her former lover and left for dead on her wedding day. The Bride wakes from a four-year coma and seeks revenge on her former lover and his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

The concept of the anti-hero has evolved in the movie "Kill Bill: Vol. 1". In the movie, the audience is not sure if they should root for The Bride or not. The Bride is a cold-blooded killer, but the audience sympathizes with her because she was betrayed. In the 1970s, the anti-hero was usually a loner who did not care about anyone but himself. The anti-hero in "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" is different because she is seeking revenge for the people who hurt her.
