Nachelle has a points card for a movie theater.

She receives 50 rewards points just for signing up.
She earns 12.5 points for each visit to the movie theater.
She needs at least 170 points for a free movie ticket.

Write and solve an inequality which can be used to determine vv, the number of visits Nachelle can make to earn her first free movie ticket.

Answer: Nachelle needs 10 visits in order to get her first free movie ticket.

Identify what is in the inequality

Nachelle gets 50 points when signing up: 50+#x=#

Nachelle earns 12.5 points for each visit: 50+12.5x=#

Nachelle need at least 170 points: 50+12.5x=170

Now you have your inequality, solve.

Subtract 50 from both sides: 50-50+12.5x=170-50

50-50 cancel out so now your left with 12.5x=170-50

Subtract the 170 and 50: 12.5x=120

Divide 12.5 from both sides: 12.5x÷12.5=120÷12.5

12.5x÷12.5 cancel out so the inequality is now x=120÷12.5

Divide 120 and 12.5: x=9.6

Since there is no such thing as 9.6 visits, round to 10.

Answer: Nachelle needs 10 visits in order to get her first free movie ticket.
