Explanation:

let the first number be x &

the second number be y

x+2y=10×2

2x+y=26×1

2x+4y=20

2x+y=26

subtract

3y=6

divide both sides by 3

3y/3 = 6/3

y=2

put y=2 in x+2y=10

x+2(2)=10

x+4=10

x=10-4

x=6

the smallest number is 2
