Explanation:

We know that he starts with 30 candy bars.

Now, we know that he has p friends, and that each friend received 3 candy bars.

Therefore, the answer is 30-3p

However, if you divide 30-3p by 10, you get the expression 3(10-p)

Thus, either answer is acceptable.
