both sub-segments together must be as long as the whole line.

so,

(x - 4) + (2x + 5) = DE = 61

x - 4 + 2x + 5 = 61

3x + 1 = 61

3x = 60

x = 60/3 = 20

so,

DC = x - 4 = 20 - 4 = 16
