What is the difference between a slave and an indentured servant?

Be specific on what both terms mean, how they are similar, and how they are different.

Slaves are people held in forced servitude, while indentured servants are people who sign a bond to work for another for a specified time in order to repay an indenture or loan.

Answer:

Despite some parallels, indentured servants gained their freedom after their contract was ended, whereas enslaved persons were continuously denied their freedom unless they could find the means to purchase themselves or successfully escape.
