Some factors affected females than males when consuming alcohol : body water level, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme, proportion of body fat, and hormonal differences.
- Females has lower body water level than men even with same bodyweight. Therefore, males body dillute more alcohol than female
- Females has less alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme then males. ADH enzyme plays role breaking down alcohol in human body.
- Women has more proportion of body fat than men. Alkohol can’t be dissolve in fat. So when women drink alcohol, its probably trap more in body fluids and has higher Blood Alkohol Concentration (BAC) then men
- Hormone plays role in alcohol metabolism. Right before a females get menstruation, metabolism of alcohol will slow down. Birth Control pills and other medication contain estrogen also slow down alcohol metabolism.
