The length of a rectangle is 3 yd longer than its width.

If the perimeter of the rectangle is 50 yd, find its length and width.

Since the length is 3 yds longer than width, you can mentally assume Length is going to be 14 yds and width is 11 yd, since Length is 3 yd longer, and finally if you add them together, 14 + 11 = 25.
