It is a simple problem you just need to take the rate (30 ft. per second) and multiply it times the number of seconds it traveled (20) so you're equation would be 20x30 which results in 600. This means the ship has traveled 600 ft. in 20 seconds meaning it is 600 ft. close to you. To get the final answer 1400 you take it's original distance (2000) and subtract how far it has traveled since then (600) so you would get 2000-600=1400 ft. away
