Answer:

Each branch (Legislative, Judicial and Executive) were created specifically so that each branch has a role and specific powers, this prevents one branch from being more powerful than the others. This is basically what check and balances is. Legislative makes the laws, the Judicial establishes the consequences in case the law is broken and the Executive enforces the consequences. No branch can do another branch's job.
