I don't understand how a shovel is a 3rd class lever.

isn't the load at the bottom? effort at the top? a fulcrum at the middle??? wouldn't that make it a first class lever? or am i just wrong?

Answer: The shovel is a 3rd class lever.

Step-by-step explanation:

Any lever where the force is applied between the load and the fulcrum is referred to as a third-class lever. A shovel is a third-class fulcrum since, when held in two hands, the upper hand serves as the central point for the lever. The force is provided by the bottom hand, situated in the middle of the lever. In other words, you draw up on a load of soil using your one hand while keeping one end steady to serve as the fulcrum. The resistance force is the material being scooped up, and the effort force is the second hand.
