The Monroe family took a road trip this past week. Before leaving, Mr. Monroe put 3.14 gallons in his car. The gas lasted 6 days before running out. If the Monroe family used the same amount of gas each day, how many gallons were used daily?

To get the daily rate, divide the gallons of gas used by the day elapsed.

This way,

\frac{3.14\text{ gallons}}{6\text{ days}}=0.523\text{ gallons per day}
