How is converting units from cups to pits like converting units from ounces to pounds? How is it different?

Answer:

Unlike the customary measurement system in the United States, the metric system is based on tens. A liter, for example, is ten times the size of a deciliter, and a centigram is ten times the size of a milligram. The customary system in the United States does not include the concept of ten. A foot is 12 inches long, a yard is 3 feet long, and a mile is 5,280 feet long.
