The plants life cycle is based in the principle of alteration of generations, since it alternates between a sexual phase and a asexual phase. The sexual phase of the plants life cycle there is the production of gametes, being called the gametophyte stage or generation, while the asexual phase produces spores and is called the sporophyte stage or generation. The gametophyte stage have the production of haploid cells (n) making the gametes of the plant that are used to cross between individuals during sexual reprodution, while the sporophyte stage the plant produces spores, that are diploid cells (2n), by asexual reprodution, being the cells genetic copies of each other.
