1) Let's solve this expression

4(x-3)-x-1=-12​ Distribute the factor

4x -12 -x -1 = -12

4x -x -13 = -12 Combine like terms and adding 13 to both sides

3x =-12 +13

3x = 9 Divide both sides by 3

x=3

2) So, the solution is x= 3, and there is one solution because we could find one entry for that.
