Logan's favorite store was having a sale on Saturday. Logan bought 8 new t-shirts for $6.50 each, and 4 pair of shorts for d dollars each. He spent a total of $84.00. Write and solve an equation to find the cost of one pair of shorts.

We know that Logan bought 8 t shirts and that each of them cost $6.50, this means the he spent:

8\cdot6.5=52

on t shirts.

Now, we know that he bought 4 pairs of shorts and that each of them cost d dollars, this means that he spent:

4d

on shorts.

Finally we know that the total was $84, so addind the first two expressions and equating to the total cost leads to:

4d+52=84

Solving for d we have:

\begin{gathered} 4d+52=84 \\ 4d=84-52 \\ 4d=32 \\ d=(32)/(4) \\ d=8 \end{gathered}

Therefore, one pair of shorts cost $8.00.
