i don't understand multiplication and division using scientific notation, could you give a couple of examples and explain how to perform those calculations?

When you are multiplying using scientific notations, you add the powers.

For example,

\begin{gathered} 3*10^5*2*10^6=6*10^(5+6) \\ =6*10^(11) \end{gathered}

And,

\begin{gathered} 3*10^5*2*10^(-6)=6*10^(5+(-6)) \\ 6*10^(-1) \end{gathered}

When you are dividing using the scientific notations, you should substract the powers.

For example,

\begin{gathered} (4*10^7)/(2*10^4)=2*10^(7-4) \\ =2*10^3 \end{gathered}
