Perimeter = 86 ft

width = w

length = l

w = 4l + 2

Equation of perimeter

Perimeter = 2l + 2w

Substitution

86 = 2l + 2(4l + 2)

Simplification

86 = 2l + 8l + 4

86 - 4 = 10l

82 = 10l

l = 82/10

l = 8.2

Find w

w = 4(8.2) + 2

w = 32.8 + 2

w = 34.8

Result

length = 8.2 ft

width = 34.8 ft
