The surface area can be found if the area of each of the faces is found and added together.

The square pyramid consists of a square face and four equal triangular faces.

Area of the square base:

\begin{gathered} A=s^2 \\ A=(5in)^2 \\ A=25in^2 \end{gathered}

Area of the triangular faces:

\begin{gathered} A=b*(h)/(2) \\ A=5in*(8in)/(2) \\ A=20in^2 \end{gathered}

Then, add together the 5 areas

\begin{gathered} SA=25in^2+5(20in^2) \\ SA=125in^2 \end{gathered}

Area:

The surface area is equal to 125 square inches.
