Complete the equation of the line through (-10, -7) and (-5, -9). Use exact numbers

step 1

Find the slope

the formula to calculate the slope is equal to

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

we have

(x1,y1)=(-10,-7)

(x2,y2)=(-5,-9)

substitute in teh formula

m=(-9-(-7))/(-5-(-10))
m=(-9+7)/(-5+10)

m=(-9+7)/(-5+10)

m=-2/5

step 2

Find the equation in slope intercept form

y=mx+b

we have

m=-2/5

point (-10, -7)

substitute the value of m and the coordinates of any point in the above equation

m=-2/5

x=-10

y=-7

substitute

-7=(-(2)/(5))\cdot(-10)+b
\begin{gathered} -7=(20)/(5)+b \\ \\ -7=4+b \\ b=-7-4 \\ b=-11 \end{gathered}

-therefore

the answer is

y=-(2/5)x-11
