Scientists genetically engineered Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes.  What were the characteristics of engineered mosquitoes that drove the lab population to extinction? (HINT:  There are 2 correct answers.)  Males could never be mutation carriers.   Females with one copy of the mutation could not reproduce.   Males were mutation carriers   Females with two copies of the mutation could not reproduce.

In this case, we don´t know the type of mutation, however, we know that leads the population to extinction, so if females with one copy could not reproduce would generate this effect as only females with two copies could reproduce, and the percentage of homozygous individuals is lower, now if males can never be carries, this means that one parent cannot transmit the mutation letting the resulting females with a single copy and unfertile.
