ANSWER:

Which means that Chelsea has 11 dimes and 16 nickles.

Explanation:

We have that x are the dimes and y are the nickels.

Therefore, we can plan the following equations:

\begin{gathered} 0.10x+0.05y=1.9\text{ (1)} \\ y=x+5\text{ (2)} \end{gathered}

We replace equation (2) in (1), and we obtain the value of x (number of dimes):

\begin{gathered} 0.10x+0.05\cdot(x+5)=1.9 \\ 0.10x+0.05x+0.25=1.9 \\ 0.15x=1.9-0.25 \\ x=(1.65)/(0.15) \\ x=11 \end{gathered}

Now we calculate y (the number of nickles) like this:

y=11+5=16
