For given n numbers of data points

x_1,x_2,x_3,\ldots,x_n

The mean value is the sum of all the data points divided by the total number of data points n.

It is formulated as

\bar{x}=(x_1+x_2+\cdots+x_n)/(n)

Given data points are

34 36 32 40 39 17

Here n=6.

Therefore, the mean of hours they worked that week is

\begin{gathered} \bar{x}=(34+36+32+40+39+17)/(6) \\ =33 \end{gathered}

Hence, the mean of hours they worked that week is 33 hours.
