In order to solve the equation a + 8/3 = 2/3 for a, we just need to subtract 8/3 from both sides of the equation:


\begin{gathered} a+(8)/(3)=(2)/(3) \\ a=(2)/(3)-(8)/(3) \\ a=-(6)/(3) \\ a=-2 \end{gathered}

So the value of a is -2, therefore the correct option is the second one.
