The work-energy theorem says the following

Wnet = ΔE

Wnet = Ef - Ei

Therefore, the net work is equal to the difference between the final energy and the initial energy.

It can be rewritten as:

Ei + Wnet = Ef

So, it looks like the equation for the conservation of energy (Ei = Ef) but it adds the term for the net work (Wnet) on the left side of the equation.
