Last month, Janelle and Tom sold candy to raise money for their debate team. Tom sold 1/3 as much candy as Janelle did. If Janelle sold 3 5/6 boxes of candy, how many boxes of candy did Tom sell?

Solution

For this case w eknow that Janelle sold 3 5/6 boxes= 23/6 boxes

And Tom sold 1/3 as Jenelle so then the amount is given by.

23/6 * 1/3 = 23/18 boxes

Then we can conclude that Tom sold 23/18 of boxes
