A rose garden is formed by joining a rectangle and a semicircle. The rectangle is 28 ft long and 18 ft wide. If the gardener wants to build a fence around the garden, how many feet of fence are required. Use the value 3.14 for pie and do not round your answer

Given :

length = 28

width = 18

Shape of garden is:

So the perimeter of garden is:


=\text{length of rectangle +width+length+perimeter of half circle}

for half circle :


\text{perimeter of circle =}2\pi r

so


\begin{gathered} \text{perimeter of half circle =}(2\pi r)/(2) \\ =\pi r \end{gathered}

Radius of circle is half of width that is 9


\begin{gathered} =\pi r \\ =9\pi \\ =9*3.14 \\ =28.26 \end{gathered}

So fence length of the garden is:


\begin{gathered} =28+18+28+28.26 \\ =102.26 \end{gathered}
