a) Decrease in temperature, △T = 7°F

Decrease in time, △t = 3 hours

The rate of change of temperature will be △T / △t

Therefore:

\begin{gathered} (\triangle T)/(\triangle t)=\text{ 7 / 3} \\ (△T)/(△t)=\text{ }2.33 \end{gathered}

Rate of change of temperature, △T / △t = 2.33 °F/hour

b) The outside temperature decreases by 7°F in 35 hours

Decrease in temperature in 1 hour = 7 / 35 = 0.2 °F

Change in temperature in 5 hours = 0.2 x 5
