A rigid cylinder of gas shows a pressure of 500 torr at 215 K. The cylinder is moved to a new storage site where the pressure within the cylinder is now measuring 800 torr. What is the new temperature? Show your work.

Use the next law for a gas with constant volume:

(P_1)/(T_1)=(P_2)/(T_2)

Solve the equation above for T2 (new temperature):

\begin{gathered} T_2*(P_1)/(T_1)=P_2 \\ \\ T_2=P_2*(T_1)/(P_1) \end{gathered}

Use the given data to find the new temperature:

\begin{gathered} T_2=800torr*(215K)/(500torr) \\ \\ T_2=(172000)/(500)K \\ \\ T_2=344K \end{gathered}

Then, the new temperature is 344K
