To find ||v|| we can use the following formula:


||v||=√(a^2+b^2)

Where a and b are the coordinates of the vector. Replace a for 5 and b for -8:


\begin{gathered} ||v||=√(5^2+(-8)^2) \\ ||v||=√(25+64) \\ ||v||=√(89) \\ ||v||=9.43 \end{gathered}

Now, substract 3 from ||v||:


||v||-3=6.43

The answer is 6.43.
