From the problem, a desk costs $414 and the discount is 28%.

Let x = original price.

and d = discount

The equation for the discounted price is :

p=x(1-d)

So p = 414 and d = 0.28

Solve for x :

\begin{gathered} 414=x(1-0.28) \\ 414=0.72x \\ x=(414)/(0.72) \\ x=575 \end{gathered}

ANSWER :

The original price is $575
