A customer receives a discount on each purchase. If the customer's bill is $1,600 before the discount and the bill is $1,460 after the discount what is the percent discount? OA) 8.8% B) 9.5% O C) 11.4% D) 91.3%

1) We can write out an equation to solve that, since we know the prices after and without discount:

1600d=1460 We'll denote "d" for discount

1600d=1460 Divide both sides by 1600

d =1460/1600

d =0.9125 approximately 0.91

0.9125 was the factor.

2) So, subtracting from 1, that 0.9125 we have: 1-0.9125= 0.0875 approximately 0.088 then we can state that the discount was 8.8% rewriting it as a percentage.

Notice that with a 10% discount the discounted price would be $1440
