Mr Patterson could run 8 laps in 76 minutes, to determine how many minutes it takes him to finish one lap you can use cross multiplication:

8 laps ___ 76 minutes

1 lap ____ x minutes

Both relationships are at the same rate so that

(76)/(8)=(x)/(1)

From this expression, we can determine the time it takes him to run one lap

\begin{gathered} x=(76)/(8) \\ x=9.5 \end{gathered}

It takes Mr. Patterson 9.5minutes to run one lap.
