The rate of change is the slope of the line that passes through the two points

The slope = (y2- y1)/ (x2-x1)

Can you see the updates?

Replacing the points

Point (x,y)

Point 1 (0,4) x1= 0; y 1= 4

Point 2 (4,0) x2= 4; y2= 0

The slope = (y2- y1)/ (x2-x1) = (0-4)/ (4-0) = -4/4 = -1
