How do you do problems like 4x=36 and -x=35

You have to divide both sides by the number that's multiplying x. A general example is:


ax=b

To solve we have to divide both sides by a:


\begin{gathered} (ax)/(a)=(b)/(a) \\ x=(b)/(a) \end{gathered}
