When I walked into the store, I noticed that the t-shirts had a sign saying "25% off sale!". If one shirt costs $20.99 with the sale how much did the shirt cost before the sale?

We know that $20.99 represent 75% of the original price, if we let x be the original price we can find it by solving the proportion:

\begin{gathered} (x)/(100)=(20.99)/(75) \\ x=((100)(20.99))/(75) \\ x=27.99 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the original price is $27.99
