Given:

Let B represent number of hours Brain travelled

Let A represent number of hours Annie travelled.

Since number of hours Annie travelled is 3 time and 2 that of Brain and they travelled for a total of 8 hours, we have:

Annie travelled = 3(B + 2)

Total number of hours travelled = 3(B + 2) + B = 12

Solve for B:

3(B + 2) + B = 12

3B + 6 + B = 12

4B + 6 = 12

4B = 12 - 6

4B = 6

B\text{ = }(6)/(4)\text{ = }(3)/(2)\text{ = 1}(1)/(2)

Brain travelled for 1½ hours

LEt's find the number of hours annie travelled:

A = 3(B + 2)

Substitute B for 1½

A = 3(1½ + 2)

= 4.5 + 6 = 10.5 = 10½

Therefore Annie travelled for 10½ hours.

Brain ravelled for 1½ hours

Annie travelled for 10½ hours.

We have:

h+3(h+2)\text{ = 12}

Where h represents number of hours Brain travelled
