How do I find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF)?

The greatest common factor is simply the greatest factor that divides two number evenly.

Example:

Let us have two numbers 12 and 18

List the prime factors of 12:

2, 2, 3

List the prime factors of 18:

2, 3, 3

Now multiply those factors which are common in both numbers.

As you can see 2 and 3 are common in both.

2×3 = 6

Therefore, the Greatest Common Factor of 12 and 18 is 6.
