A paper company needs to ship paper to alarge printing business. The paper will beshipped in small boxes and large boxes.Each small box of paper weighs 40 poundsand each large box of paper weighs 80pounds. A total of 14 boxes of paper wereshipped weighing 800 pounds altogether.Graphically solve a system of equations inorder to determine the number of smallboxes shipped, x, and the number of largeboxes shipped, y.

Let:

x = number of small boxes

y = number of large boxes

Each small box of paper weighs 40 pounds and each large box of paper weighs 80 pounds. all boxes weighing 800 pounds altogether, so:


40x+80y=800

A total of 14 boxes of paper were shipped, so:


x+y=14

therefore:


\begin{cases}40x+80y=800_{\text{ }}(1) \\ x+y=14_{\text{ }}(2)\end{cases}

8 small boxes were shipped and 6 large boxes were shiped
