Answer $9.05

Explanation:

If you add 6.5% sales tax to $8.50 that rounds up to about 55cent in sales tax so 8.50 + .55 = 9.05

9.05 + 9.05 = 18.10

Answer:

$18.11

Explanation:

You want the total cost with 6.5% tax added when purchasing two shirts for $8.50 each.

Cost with tax

The 6.5% sales tax has the effect of multiplying the subtotal by (1 +6.5%) = 1.065. This brings the total to ...

2(8.50)(1.065) = (17)(1.065) = 18.105

The price is rounded to the nearest cent:

$18.11 is the total Maggie will pay.
