Let x = number of adult tickets

3x = number of student tickets (three times the number of adult tickets)

The sum of the tickets is 436 tickets.

The equation will be :

\begin{gathered} x+3x=436 \\ 4x=436 \\ x=(436)/(4) \\ x=109 \end{gathered}

ANSWER :

The number of adult tickets sold is 109 tickets
