Let us take the given information in as the coordinates,

(3,11) and (5,17)

Using two point formula, find the linear equation,

\begin{gathered} (y-y_1)/(y_2-y_1)=(x-x_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ (y-11)/(17-11)=(x-3)/(5-3) \\ (y-11)/(6)=(x-3)/(2) \\ 2y-22=6x-18 \\ 2y-6x-4=0 \\ y-3x-2=0 \end{gathered}

Put x=6 for 6 hour job, we get,

\begin{gathered} y-3(6)-2=0 \\ y-18-2=0 \\ y=20 \end{gathered}

Hence, he will earn $20 for 6 hour job.
