In the figure given that g is parallel to n.

It is clear from the figure that the angles y and 71 are consecutive interior angles. The sum of consecutive interior angles is 180 degrees. So,


\begin{gathered} y+71=180 \\ y=180-71 \\ y=109 \end{gathered}

It is also clear from the figure that angle y and angle 4z + 17 are vertically opposite angles. The vertically opposite angles are equal.


\begin{gathered} 4z+17=y \\ 4z+17=109 \\ 4z=109-17 \\ 4z=92 \\ z=(92)/(4) \\ z=23 \end{gathered}

Thus, y = 109 and z = 23.
