However, with the rising ideology of the Progressives and Social Darwinism, there was a growing sentiment that the United States should expand its wealth and beliefs to the rest of the world. Because of this, they added two more states: Alaska and Hawaii, both which are very far away from the mainland. The United States also become more involved in Central and South America (Panama Canal), along with aiding in revolutionary efforts from the Cubans and other territories from Spain.
