Answer:

x = 20 degrees and y = 70 degrees

Explanation:

The first thing you do is work out the angle next to 180 degrees

180 - 40 = 140

Bottom angles in an isosceles triangle are equal.

180 - 140 = 40

40/2 = 20

so x = 20 degrees

The next thing is right angle - 20 = 70 degrees

Angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees

70 + 40 = 110

180 - 110 = 70

so y = 70 degrees
