What is the relationship between potential difference and direction of flow of current in an electric circuit?

Potential difference excites the electrons inside the material of the wire used throughout the circuit, due to this excitement the electrons start flowing to the higher potential (positive terminal) & due to their motion, current is directed in the opposite direction to the electron flow.
