3x + 3y = 6 (eq. 1)

9x - 5y = -24 (eq. 2)

Multiplying equation 1 by 3,

3(3x + 3y) = 3*6

3(3x) + 3(3y) = 18

9x + 9y = 18 (eq. 3)

Subtracting equation 2 to equation 3,

9x + 9y = 18

-

9x - 5y = -24

---------------------

14y = 42

y = 42/14

y = 3

Replacing this result into equation 1,

3x + 3(3) = 6

3x + 9 = 6

3x = 6 - 9

3x = -3

x = -3/3

x = -1
