We need to use the pythagorean theorem:

In a right triangle we have:

hyppootenuse

leg1

leg2

And the theorem says:


\text{hyppotenuse}^2=\text{leg}1^2+\text{leg}2^2

In this case:

leg1 = 9cm

leg2 = 3cm


c^2=(9cm)^2+(3cm)^2

And solve for c:


\begin{gathered} c=\sqrt[]{81cm^2+9cm^2} \\ c=\sqrt[]{90cm^2} \\ c\approx9.486832\ldots \end{gathered}

To the nearest tenth:

c = 9.5cm
