Given the equation:

y=4x-1

This is a linear relation, and particularly, it is a function because each x-value has one and only one y-value given by the equation above.

We evaluate this function for x = -3, x = -2, and x = -1:

\begin{gathered} x=-3\Rightarrow y=4(-3)-1=-13 \\ \\ x=-2\operatorname{\Rightarrow}y=4(-2)-1=-9 \\ \\ x=-1\operatorname{\Rightarrow}y=4(-1)-1=-5 \end{gathered}
