Explanation:

The first thing we will do is split this shape into three different rectangles. You can see how I split it up by looking at the picture attached to this answer.

You can see that we are missing a measurement at the bottom (I labeled it "x"). In order to find x, we just need to subtract 3cm from 5cm.

Doing this, we find that x = 2cm.

Now you just find the area of the three boxes and add them together.

The area of the box on the top right = 3*2 which = 6cm^2.

The area of the box on the bottom right is the same. 3*2=6cm^2

The area of the box on the left = 8*2 which = 16cm^2.

6 + 6 + 16 = 28cm^2
